 Grammatophyllum wallisii sp. is native to the Philippines. This form has flower spikes that are erect and not arching, with flowers to about 10 cm across. A large thick caned species, this species grows well in warm conditions, Grammatophyllum plants can also grow well in full sun too!. In warmer regions the plants do well hanging under a tree in the garden or in semi shade areas. The plant as it grows older will form a basket of aerial roots, which is designed to catch falling leaves which will decompose and release nutrients and thus sustain the plant. Grammatophyllum wallisii is a warm species native to the Philippines. This species is a form of Grammatophyllum speciosum and has very similar growing habits and flowers. Blooms from fall to summer on an upright spike that slightly fragrant flowers that are about 3 l/2" in diameter (the above picture shows you a similar flower). Flowers are long-lasting (about 8-10 weeks) and are quite beautiful. This species require direct sunlight and intermediate to warm temperature. Plants can tolerate up to 100 degrees (but likes it humid) and as low as 45 degrees. They are very vigorous growers and prolific bloomers and should double in size within a year.
