The flower quality of Portagee Star is surprisingly nice: the shape is full, the lip is flat and the color is an attractive yellow with a bit of red. Melana Davison (Catasetum Penang x Catasetum denticulatum) has been a landmark hybrid in the breeding of reduced plant size while maintaining excellent flower size, shape, colour, and count.
