Coelogyne fimbriata occurs in the Himalayas, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. It grows epiphytic on trees or lithophyte on rocks in primary, broadleaf, evergreen lowland forests or primary montane forests at an altitude of 640 to 2300 meters above sea level.  It is a medium sized, cool to hot growing epiphytic or lithophytic orchid with 3 to 4 cm between each, ovoid to ellipsoid, 2 to 4 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width pseudobulb that carry 2 apical, oblong-elliptic, acute, plicate, 5 nerved, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base, 9 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width leaves.
