Cattleya tigrina is not for the meek; this is a robust orchid that can grow two to three feet tall and produce many-flowered inflorescences. And that is exactly what makes it so wonderful! Cattleya tigrina is found in coastal forests below 100 meters in southern Brazil as a large, bifoliate to trifoliate, warm growing epiphyte with cylindrical, slightly thickened apically pseudobulb subtended by white sheaths and carrying 2 apical, oblong-elliptic, leathery leaves with sharp to serrated edges that blooms in the mid-summer on an erect, few to several [3 to 10] flowered racemose inflorescence that is subtended by a green sheath on a newly arising pseudobulb and carrying fragrant flowers.
